APPROVE Security Position Title: APPROVE Security Salary Range: TBD Contract Length: School Year Immediate Supervisor: Special Education Supervisor, Studebaker Administrator Position Summary Position is responsible for maintaining order and discipline, security checks, and is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of APPROVE students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and may be asked to provide additional assistance in the assigned school as needed. Position assists the APPROVE and administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly programming/schools at the building level. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Conducts daily security checks for all APPROVE students entering the building. Supervises and directs pupil movement. Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations. Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities. Notifies the supervisor, administrative staff, police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of security or emergency situations. Investigates student violations of school board policies and prepares reports of the results. Works with school administrators and law enforcement in handling serious student offenses and law violations. Testifies in court and at School Board Disciplinary Control Panels hearings as required. Assists with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations. Supervises classroom behavior in lieu of faculty. Maintain security records, logs and reports. Attends and successfully completes all staff development training as required by SBCSC Special Education Department and/or Studebaker Administration. Abides by Public Service Department guidelines, directives and post orders. Reads and responds to email communications. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor, principal or other appropriate administrator. Qualifications Must possess excellent human relations skills. High School Diploma with some experience or training in a security related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills and abilities is required, but completion of college-level courses in the area of security, psychology, emergency management and criminal justice as well as experience as an officer of law enforcement is preferred. Must possess knowledge of, and ability to apply, standard security procedures and best practices. Security experience in a public school setting is preferred. Must possess the ability to acquire knowledge of School Board Policies and procedures and Student Rights and Responsibilities. Must possess the ability to read, write, speak and understand stand English. Must possess basic technology skills/computer based program awareness. Physical Demands Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 40 lbs., sit, stand, walk, speak, hear and use close vision. Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; articulate information in an emergency situation; use physical agility and strength to defend self and detain persons using force if necessary; and have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement. Work Environment Duties are normally performed inside a school/classroom environment and outdoors in all weather conditions.
