Under the general direction of the Habitat Conservation Planning Branch Chief, the Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory) manages two unique programs within the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department). The Timberland Conservation and Fire Resiliency Program coordinates the Department’s participation in supporting the State’s goals to improve forest health and reduce catastrophic wildfire. The Native Plant Program implements activities for the conservation of native plant species, and coordinates the implementation of the Western Joshua Tree Conservation Act.
The successful candidate must have the skills to collaborate with state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, the public, and California Native American Tribes. Internally, the successful candidate will work with Department programs and regions, wildlife officers and executives to ensure effective and efficient program and policy implementation.Additional duties include:
• Oversight of the development of bill analyses, administration of statewide budgets, and the coordination of concept papers and Budget Change Proposals.
• Supervision of staff in the Timberland Conservation and Fire Resiliency, and Native Plant Programs and identification of staff development goals and work objectives.
• Leadership in the Department’s coordination with state and federal counterparts in implementing the statewide Timber Harvest Review Program and the Department’s response to statewide vegetation management and forest health and resilience efforts.
• Management of activities of the Native Plant Program, assuring timely processing of California Endangered Species Act plant listing petitions, the completion of 5-year species reviews of listed plants, and recovery planning for listed plant species, as well as coordination the implementation of the Western Joshua Tree Conservation Act.
