Job Description

The Group & Cemetery Manager oversees the scheduling and coordination of group visits, is the point of contact for reception of priestly faculties, and is responsible for ensuring a smooth, professional and efficient operation of Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery. This position will work with internal staff and Mount St. Mary’s University resources to mold and manage a strong, cohesive experience for the visitors of the National Shrine Grotto and Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery. Candidate must have strong organization and administrative skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Applicant must have the ability to manage and work with a diverse group of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an excellent working knowledge in Word and Excel are required. All is done in a manner to advance the goals of the University, and specific mission of the National Shrine Grotto. Position reports to the Philanthropy Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Group Events/Scheduled Groups:

  • Oversee and enhance group tour programming.
  • Promote the University, collaborating with Admissions Office in the recruitment of potential students through group visits, communication and print resources.
  • Assist and plan itineraries for visitor requests for pilgrimages, weddings, and Masses.
  • Manage and track group, retreat and wedding invoices and budgets
  • Generate/distribute weekly event updates regarding group visits to Grotto Team
  • Greet all groups upon arrival, give presentations, and promote MSMU
  • Implement group set-ups and tear-downs
  • Assist Visitor Relations staff with Mass Enrollments and front desk coverage

Spiritual Activities:

  • Communicate with Archdiocese to confirm priestly faculties for liturgical celebrations
  • Create, track, and complete Annual Candle prayer requests, notifying donors of renewal

Volunteer Coordinator:

  • Coordinate and maintain volunteer database
  • Schedule and communicate with volunteers for Grotto events
  • Assist volunteers with necessary training and driver certifications

Cemetery Management:

  • Point of contact for families interested in purchasing a plot or niche
  • Maintain Cemetery database, maps, sales, payments & annual reports
  • Coordinate burials with funeral homes, families, and excavator

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team with results-oriented approach
  • Strong computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to be persistent in tasks
  • Ability to give substantial feedback on given responsibilities
  • Capable of maintaining composure and flexibility in stressful, deadline-driven situations
  • In-depth knowledge of Roman Catholic faith, with its culture, structure, and activities

Salary Range:

  • $40,000-$42,000/year (Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications).
  • Hours: 40 hours/week (Tuesday - Saturday)
