Overview Introduction: Do you have an interest in protecting, securing and working on a military installation? If so, the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is recruiting for Armed Security Officers (Military Affairs Security Officer) at Volk Field Air Base in Camp Douglas, WI. Volk Field is one of only four Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Centers in the nation, and the only one that does not share its airfield with a civilian airport. The Training Center Mission is to provide a year-round integrated training environment for units to enhance their combat capabilities and readiness. The DMA provides essential, effective, and responsive military and emergency management capability for the citizens of our state and nation. During emergencies, no single organization can handle the response. The DMA consists of several organizations working together to plan, prepare, coordinate, and respond effectively when our communities and neighbors need us the most. Position Summary: This position provides armed security services to protect property and persons from sabotage, fire, espionage, theft, vandalism, and other hazards; control entry and exit of all personnel, vehicles and equipment at entry points to the National Guard Facility or Base; assist and direct visitors; enforce parking regulations; ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations, rules and laws; prepare and maintain records; monitor base alarm systems; and attend training and safety classes. Salary Information New hires currently start at $25.38* per hour once they pass the qualification to carry firearms. This starting wage consists of a base pay of $23.38 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour add-on to the hourly rate for carrying a firearm while on duty. (The employer will provide the required firearm training.) These positions also have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit. For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. A 12-month probationary period is required. The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9. Job Details Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma, GED, or HSED Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment medical evaluation, including a drug screen, a psychological assessment, and will be required to complete a fitness/agility test consisting of push-ups (18), sit ups (24), sprint (300 meter in 90 seconds), run (1.5 mile in 20 min), push (67lbs), pull (77lbs), drag/carry (145lbs-25ft) and lift (70lbs) DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled A Common Access Card (CAC) requires completion of a Department of Defense investigation and a more in-depth federal background check for gaining access to federal computer systems, restricted locations, or classified information Must qualify to carry firearms and remain qualified as a condition of employment; must not have been convicted of a felony or any domestic abuse charges or convictions For MASO positions at Volk Field, must meet Juneau County Sheriff’s office standards to become deputized Positions at Wisconsin Air National Guard bases require a valid driver’s license upon appointment and must obtain a military driver license following hire A 12-month probationary period is required All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
