ThePop Culture Collaborative is a philanthropic resource and funder learning community that uses grantmaking, convening, narrative strategy, and research to transform the narrative landscape around people of color, immigrants, refugees, Muslims, and Native people— especially those who are women, queer, transgender, and/or disabled. The Collaborative believes there is an opportunity—and that philanthropy has a responsibility—to build a field capable of shaping popular culture to reflect the complexity of the American people and make a just and pluralistic future feel real, desirable, and inevitable. Through partnerships between the social justice sector and the pop culture industries, the Collaborative believes activists, artists, and philanthropists can encourage mass audiences to reckon with the past and rewrite the story of our nation’s future. With the vision and backing of a bold set of philanthropic investors (our “Managing Partners”), in 2017 the Collaborative began building a multimillion dollar grantmaking fund to advance this vital work—and accelerate the impact of artists, social justice advocates, culture change strategists, tech innovators, academics, and others to affect change through entertainment and narratives in mass media. Learn more at ABOUT THE POSITION The Pop Culture Collaborative seeks its first Network Weaver, a naturally social, relationship-driven organizer who will work to seed and strengthen relationships, networks, collaboration, and coordination among the many artists, organizers, strategists, researchers, and funders who comprise the Pop Culture Collaborative community. Working across all of the organization’s program areas, the Network Weaver will create the systems and infrastructure that enable this innovative community to achieve ambitious narrative change goals at mass audience scale, while also leveraging their collective power to advance social justice within their own movements, industries, and sectors. Reporting to the Executive Director and supporting the leadership team, staff, and broader Pop Culture Collaborative community, the Network Weaver will identify the connective tissue between different people and networks within the Collaborative ecosystem, constantly recommending connections and collaborations, creating the conditions for meaningful and effective partnerships across teams, organizations, and sectors. In particular, the Network Weaver will work closely with staff, Senior Fellows, grantees, and Managing Partners to knit together the grantee community convened through the recently launched Becoming America Fund, a multimillion philanthropic strategy that will support this narrative network of pop culture for social change practitioners to immerse millions of Americans in a vibrant, pop culture–driven “narrative ocean” that can ignite public imagination about America’s potential to become a pluralist society.
