Job Highlights:

Applicants must currently be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and have completed both their fundamentals of nursing class and first clinical rotation. Graduation should be within the next 18 months to qualify.

Scheduling: Nurse interns are required to commit to a minimum of 24 hours over four weeks. We offer flexible scheduling options to accommodate your academic commitments.

Program Length: The Nurse Internship concludes upon your graduation, with the aim of facilitating a smooth transition into a graduate nurse position and enrollment in our Graduate Nurse Residency program.

Our Nurse Internship offers valuable, hands-on clinical training across multiple units, all under the mentorship of a dedicated preceptor.

Job Summary:

Under supervision and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, the nurse intern assists in providing a variety of nursing care services for patients. This transitional role is ideal for nursing students interested in pursuing an RN position with our team after completing their nursing program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete patient care tasks within the competencies established during nursing school, under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Enhance patient safety and care quality by responding to patient calls, taking vital signs, and monitoring patients' conditions.
  • Create a positive patient experience by assisting with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, ambulation, and feeding.
  • Support quality care by performing procedures such as dressing changes, enemas, and catheter care.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by responding to patient needs, communicating openly, and providing emotional support.
  • Ensure patient safety and care quality by documenting information accurately and communicating with healthcare team members.
  • Actively participate in department initiatives and meetings to contribute to exceptional healthcare outcomes.
  • Alert licensed nurses to any changes in patient conditions, complaints, and educational needs.
  • Assist in preparing patients for discharge and provide support during the dismissal process.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment in alignment with patient care needs while being mindful of cost containment.
  • Help orient new patients and their families to the nursing unit.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and safety at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program and completion of first clinical rotation.

Experience:

  • No prior experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Need to distinguish body sounds and alarms.
  • Frequent light lifting and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and data entry using a keyboard.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and other movements.
  • Occasional heavier lifting and moving of patients.
  • Ability to use all senses to aid in patient care.
  • Occasional driving required.

Required Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS HCP) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
