Overview

Apply to become a Security Officer for the Los Angeles Unified School District . As a California peace officer you will protect school property, students and personnel by patrolling buildings and grounds during adult school classes and activities.

Responsibilities

Typical duties include:

• Patrol adult school grounds and buildings to prevent and control incidents of violence.
• Apprehend and interrogate suspects committing or attempting crimes against school facilities or offenses to students or school personnel.
• Cooperate with local law enforcement agencies to prevent, control and investigate antisocial or illegal activities.
• Investigate crimes or offenses on site, collect evidence and question witnesses.
• Prepare and submit crime, arrest and incident reports.
• Assist in orienting school administrators and students regarding security measures.

Shift Options

The maximum number of hours per week is 19. Shift times are tentative and will be finalized based on availability.

Minimum Requirements

Education: High school graduation or equivalent proficiency AND successful completion of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) accredited academy.

Experience: One year of experience as a peace officer in a public law enforcement agency and current employment in such an agency.

OR

Retired peace officer from a California P.O.S.T. approved agency with status as a registered Security Guard with a firearms permit from the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services and a California Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit.

Special: Valid drivers license to legally operate a motor vehicle in California. Appointment is subject to fingerprinting, review of conviction record and comprehensive background investigation. Applicants must maintain a California Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit throughout employment.
