Senior Electrical Engineer

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of advanced BESS solutions. Your expertise in electrical engineering and lithium-ion battery technology will be instrumental in driving our projects to success.

For candidates local to Canada, this job would be in-person. For candidates located along the West Coast in the US, a hybrid model of 1-week per month in the office is required.

  • Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 per year

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the electrical design and specification of grounding methodologies, isolation design and sizing, and the integration of reliable backup power solutions.
  • Perform transformer selection and sizing, grid interconnection studies, 3-phase load calculations, short circuit and arc flash analyses, and sizing of cables, breakers, panels, and fuses, including motorized breaker selection.
  • Spearhead the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and 3-phase AC component sizing and specification for critical infrastructure, including the design of busbars, combiner boxes, and switchgear (disconnects, breakers), ensuring full compliance with relevant codes and certifications such as CSA 22.2, IEEE 1547, UL1741, and UL9540.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and onboarding of new suppliers to optimize product cost, function, and lead times.
  • Drive creation and revision of FMEA, BOM, manufacturing and assembly drawings.
  • Electrical design and documentation to support UL product certification.

The Candidate

We’re looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in the design and development of electrical systems, with a focus on BESS or lithium-ion battery applications.
  • Expert proficiency in relevant design software for electrical design of battery systems, power electronics, and control systems.
  • Demonstrated advanced understanding of lithium-ion battery technology, battery management systems (BMS), and power conversion systems (PCS).
  • Demonstrated understanding of UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A.
