The Senior Scientist at the Computational Biology Genomics Laboratory (CBGL) leads and coordinates multi-disciplinary research projects focused on genomics and cancer biology, particularly pediatric cancer. The role involves developing and applying advanced molecular biology techniques, single-cell sequencing methods, and bioinformatics tools to support faculty research and collaborative studies on tumor evolution and survivor health. Additionally, the scientist supervises lab operations, trains staff, and contributes to scientific publications while ensuring high-quality data generation and protocol development.
The Computational Biology Genomics Laboratory (CBGL) has an open position for a Senior Scientist. This position will provide the selected candidate with the opportunity to contribute to projects of scientific and institutional importance. The CBGL is a central laboratory supporting principal investigators in the Department of Computational Biology, their collaborators, and multi-institutional partnerships initiated by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Current collaborations include the Transcription Collaborative, St. Jude Life, and the Childhood Cancer Survivorship Study. The CBGL supports several areas of faculty research and interest. Including studies on genomic variation in cancer, the development of improved tools for the analysis and detection of pediatric cancer, cell programs in the tumor micro-environment, and the characterization of the properties of single cells during development and in tumor evolution. A portion of the laboratory is currently supporting the St. Jude Life study with the Department of Epidemiology and Cancer Control. Investigations are being conducted at the bulk and single cell level to better understand the molecular underpinnings impacting the quality of life of survivors, such as frailty, and the risk of secondary cancers from cancer treatment during childhood. The selected candidate will utilize their demonstrated experience and problem-solving skills across a broad range of experimental techniques including but not limited to assays in molecular biology, genomics, advanced imaging methods, and tissue processing to generate and analyze high quality data in collaboration with faculty and scientists in the department of computational biology.Job Responsibilities:
