Assistant Professor - Climate Driven Disease Ecology, Ecology & Evolution Posted on August 29, 2025 Position Overview The Department of Ecology and Evolution at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Global Change and Disease Ecology. This role aims to address the intersection of global change, infectious disease dynamics, and public health, emphasizing understanding how factors like climate change, land use, biodiversity loss, urbanization, and global trade influence host-pathogen interactions, vector ecology, and zoonotic spillovers. The successful candidate will bring expertise in quantitative methods such as ecological or evolutionary modeling, genomics, or advanced computation (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, neural networks) to develop predictive frameworks for mitigating the impacts of global change on disease ecology. Responsibilities We seek a candidate capable of teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology and evolutionary biology, and who will establish a robust, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program. This program should produce high-impact publications and foster interdisciplinary collaborations with public health and medical researchers. The candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate within the department and with external entities such as the New York Climate Exchange, the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, the Department of Anthropology, and the Institute for Advanced Computational Science. The role involves mentoring students, participating in departmental and university committees, and contributing to the academic community. Qualifications Required: Ph.D. in ecology, evolutionary biology, or a closely related field at the time of appointment; evidence of research activity demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications. Preferred: Postdoctoral experience in a related field; a strong record of research and publications; potential or history of attracting external funding; effective teaching and mentoring experience; commitment to diversity and inclusion in ecology and evolution.
