Action Against Hunger USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network. As an independent NGO, Action Against Hunger USA currently manages operations in 8 countries: Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia and Haiti. Action Against Hunger-USA has over $100 million in programs, and approximately 1,800 permanent staff based in New York City, Washington D.C, Nairobi, and country offices. Additional growth is anticipated.
I. Job Summary
Action Against Hunger's External Relations Department seeks a creative, high-energy candidate to support volunteer leaders across the organization with a special focus on the organization's Advisory Council. This elite group of volunteers carries the mandate to help Action Against Hunger become a “better known, better guided and better funded” organization. The Advisory Council is composed of a variety of professionals across multiple industries who devote their time, talent, and treasure to advancing the work and mission of Action Against Hunger. The group also serves as an entry point for volunteerism for prospective board members as well as an engagement vehicle for emeritus board members.
The council has enjoyed rapid growth in the past few years with plans for further expansion. This role will facilitate the annual calendar of engagement for these high-level volunteers as well as help manage and expand the scope of other volunteer work for the organization, including the potential development of a young professionals committee as well as our emerging celebrity engagement strategy.
The ideal candidate has strong project management skills, enjoys building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, is a strategic thinker, and can handle confidential and sensitive material. They will have refined interpersonal skills and be able to liaison between this group of elite volunteers and other VIP stakeholders, including the office of the CEO, our communications department, the Board of Directors, major donors, media outlets, academic and governmental organizations, and more.
This person should have experience in planning strategic events, a basic literacy in nonprofit fundraising, and an entrepreneurial spirit to lead a group that is deeply engaged and enthusiastic to do more. They will work respectfully and diplomatically with diverse teams, will be high energy and thrive under pressure, and bring creativity and a sense of humor to work every day. Most importantly, they should be passionate about our shared mission to end global hunger.
Volunteer Leadership Liaison:
Purpose : Manage bespoke engagement for our group of Advisory Council Volunteers, facilitating an annual calendar of meetings and events. Work individually with each volunteer to craft and execute an engagement plan that harnesses their unique skill set, passions, and connections in service of Action Against Hunger.
Engagement : Work with volunteer leaders as well as internal and external teams to design and execute plans that will enhance Action Against Hunger's profile in the US market, contributing to improved brand recognition, fundraising, and programmatic outcomes for the organization.
Delivery : Execute an annual calendar of engagement that includes three formal meetings per year and other informal engagement opportunities, and coordinate on additional activations that utilize volunteer talents include participation in panel events, webinars, fundraising and networking events, media activations and other opportunities to advance the mission of the organization and the goals of the Council
